INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO MODERN BAKERS PVT LTD– MADHAVARAM PLANT.
On November 25th 2024, the Department of Management Studies at SRM Valliammai Engineering College at SRM Nagar Kattankulathur organised an industrial visit to MODERN BAKERS PVT LTD, PARLE-G COMPANY plant in order to provide the I Year MBA Section 4 students (total 54) a hands-on experience with the production process, managerial responsibilities and other operational activities involved in a manufacturing plant.
The students visited Modern Bakers PVT LTD, Madhavaram with the assistance of Dr. K. Srimathi Assistant Professor and Mr. Thanga Baalaji Amuthan Assistant Professor. We reached the spot around 11:00 AM and was warmly welcomed by the administrative staff of this business.
While we were
at the PARLE-G manufacturing facility, they gave us hygiene kits for safety,
comprising a face mask and a head cap. We began by looking up the plant layout.
The person on duty, escorted us inside and then provided information
on the establishment by playing a 20-minute video clip that summarized the
production procedures, operations and product diversifications of
PARLE-G. Additionally, the recording featured a number of ads from the 1990s
and early 2000s that were crucial to their branding and marketing
initiatives. Further, we discovered that MODERN BAKERS are merely
third parties involved in PARLE-G’s production methods.
The manufacturing layout was meticulously structured, and the paths featured
boards displaying their processes. They showed us around the facility and went
over every stage of the biscuit manufacturing process with us.
ABOUT COMPANY INSIGHTS GAINED BY STUDENTS:
The Employee who accompanied gave us clear details about the Plant's process and function. The main items produced by MODERN BAKERS PVT LTD include Krack Jack and 20-20 biscuits, as well as their sugary treats, which includes Mango Bites, Kaccha Mango Bites, Toffee, Poppins, Parle Kreams, Kissme Chocolates and other snacks.

VISIT TO PRODUCTION UNIT:
· While visiting the production area, the PARLE-G production manager provided comprehensive information about the methodical Parle biscuits preparation procedure that was used at their factory, followed by the baking procedure, the biscuits are brought to the plant's laboratory for a quality check ensuring that they meet the standards. Then the biscuits are processed for packing and dispatched for consumption.
· A large machine in the end blended sugar, maida, and other essential ingredients for making the biscuit dough. Following that, the dough is moulded into the authentic PARLE-G shape and placed in tunnel ovens. Once the biscuits are baked, they are cooled and packed, workers manually choose the biscuits that don't match quality standards and discard them in a different box.
· Instead of outsourcing, they make their own packaging to cut costs, it is done manually with the help of Cartoning Machines.
INTERACTIVE SESSION:
After the visit to the different areas of the plant we had an interactive session with the Management team members. The General Manager and The Management team clarified
