INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO AAVIN - SHOLINGANALLUR DAIRY

On April 17,2024, the Department of Management Studies at SRM ValliammaiEngineering College at SRM Nagar Kattankulathur organised an industrial visit To Aavin – Sholinganallur Dairy (TAMILNADU CO-OPERATIVE MILK PRODUCERS’ FEDERATION LIMITED), plant was visited by the MBA students (total 59) to acquire practical experience with the production process and managerial duties and other operational activities involved in the Dairy industry.

The students were accompanied by Dr.J.Anand, Assistant Professor - MBA and, Dr. Hema Sundari, Assistant Professor - MBA, visited the Aavin –Sholinganallur DairyandWe reached the spot around 11:00AM, the plant’s Admin staff welcomed us with his open arms. She took us around the unit and explained us each and every step in the production process of Milk. The factory outlay was perfectly cleaned, organized and both the pathways had boards stating their layout blueprint.This industry hold space for plants which adds, quality to their environment and to its aesthetic look as well.

 

 


Aavin is a State Government Cooperative under the ownership of Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Limited (TNCMPFL), Ministry of Cooperation, Government of Tamil Nadu and the trademark of TNCMPFL. Aavin procures milk, processes it and sells milk and milk products to consumers.The company uses advanced manufacturing processes to ensure the efficacy and purity of its  Milk production. Quality control measures are implemented at every stage of production to deliver products that meet customer expectations. Additionally, efforts are made to minimize packaging waste and promote Eco-friendly practices.

Then the admin staff took us inside the production area and explained us step by step process of milk productions.The milk processing section in processing plants contains all operations of milk like collecting milk from farmers, storing milk in tanks at below 4°Cthen separating, pasteurizing and homogenizing for making good quality milk products by using milk processing equipment.High-Temperature Short-Time method, where the milk is heated to 71.6°C for only 15 seconds (i.e) Pasteurization makes milk safe for human consumption by destroying pathogenic germs (pathogens) Pasteurization in dairy plants is done to make the product safe for use and to extend product shelf life.Sholinganallurplant produces 4 varieties of Milk such as toned milk, double toned milk,standardisedmilk and full cream milk with different fat and SNF content. After packaging the milk packets are stored below 5°C in cold rooms and then distributed to consumers. Aavin operates on a cooperative model, empowering local milk producers through an extensive network of dairy cooperatives across the state. One of Aavin's key strengths lies in its robust procurement system. It sources milk directly from farmers, offering fair prices and ensuring a steady income for countless rural households. This approach not only supports farmers but also maintains the quality of milk supplied to consumers. By integrating modern technology with traditional practices, it has revolutionized the dairy sector.

Answer: The Fat and SNF content is increased compared to standardised Milk (Green Colour)

Answer: Standard Milk – Green Colour (2.5 Lakh per day)

 Once we gathered information about the production of milk Again we came out through the exit door where we were served with ice cream and snacks.

                 To conclude, the opportunity to visit this industry has provided us with a lot of insights in regard to the production activities and other managerial sides. We thank Director, Principal and Dr.Venkata Sai Srinivasa Rao Muramalla - HOD, Department of Management Studies, Industrial visit coordinator - Dr.Anand.J, other faculty’s and College management for providing us this opportunity to acquire a bright exposure in live production and markets.
