On 22nd August 2024, the Department of Management Studies, SRM Valliammai Engineering College at SRM Nagar Kattankulathur organised an industrial visit to Adyar Ananda Bhavan Sweets India Pvt Ltd, Ambattur was visited by the II MBA Sec- 2 students (Totally 43 Students) to acquire practical experience with the production process and managerial duties and other operational activities involved in the Food industry.
The students were well accompanied by Mr.P.Srinivasan, Assistant Professor( MBA) and Dr. R.Meena Kumari, Assistant Professor (MBA), visited the Adyar Ananda Bhavan Sweets & Snacks - A2B, Ambattur plant and reached the plant at 09.20 AM. The plant Admin staffs was welcomed us with their open arms. They took us around the whole unit and explained us each and every step in the production process of their sweets and savories. The factory outlay was well maintained and organized. The pathways had boards stating their layout. This industry hold space for plants which adds quality to their environment and to its aesthetic look as well.
Adyar Ananda Bhavan (A2B) is an Indian chain of vegetarian restaurants and confectioners, and is considered to be in the hospitality industry. The company was founded in 1960 by K.S. Thirupathi Raja, who started as a small sweet shop in Rajapalayam. Their products sufficed by ‘Rajapalayam’ are said to be their signature items. Today A2B has over 185 outlets across India and is known for its high-quality ingredients, time-tested methods, and excellent customer service. Quality control measures are implemented at every stage of production to deliver products that meet customer expectations. Additionally, efforts are made to minimize packaging waste and promote Eco-friendly practices.
We were then taken into the production area by the admin staffs and they explained us the production process step by step. The production unit comprises of their own well-maintained equipment and machines. The required raw materials are procured well in advance from their very own suppliers and they also use some of their own ingredients that they produce in their own farm situated in Namakkal. They are mainly into maintaining the quality of the food that is been prepared and delivered to the customers. Every process, right from the procurement of the raw materials, preparing the base material to producing and packing the finished good have their own quality checks.
The process begins by preparing the base dough for some snack items while the others are directly cooked in their special cookers. These special cookers are different from others, since they are heat exchangers that operate without the requirement of separate LPG or any other fuel connection. The cooking oil is constantly maintained at 60℃ in those cookers, to which they add the dough and other ingredients. A type of synthetic oil is used to transfer heat from the external source to these cookers thereby maintaining the heat. The have implemented a variety of machines to ease the load on their workers. Although they are well aware of the modern technologies and are able to implement them in their production activity, they insist on maintaining the human workforce as they care a lot about their worker. They proclaim that is their specialty and adds a unique touch to their products.
A2B
Ambattur plant has its own ETP, QC laboratory, production and dispatch units. The
ingredients are sampled randomly from a batch and are tested for their purity
and quality and only on passing this initial quality the ingredients are then
moved into the production facility and the process are carried out. They
not only prepare and produce sweets and savories but also have their own
kitchen where they prepare food for over 20 restaurants of A2B and dispatch them on
time. The storage facility has their own divisions for items that require cool
environment and the ones that do not. They are then dispatched to the
respective outlets based on the orders received.
Once the students were done with the production and storage units they were directed to the training center where they were received by Mr.Jambulingam, Lead – Skill and Training and Centre Head and got educated on their strategies and developments. He engaged the students in a more energetic and professional way. Students were exposed to a variety of ideas on how the organization functions and gathered a lot of insights on how they are well organized. The session lasted for 45 minutes and was very useful.
