On October 27,2023, the Department of Management Studies at SRM Valliammai Engineering College at SRM Nagar Kattankulathur organised an industrial visit To Medimix Soap Company (AVA CHOLAYIL HEALTH CARE PRIVATE LIMITED, Thirumazhisai plant was visited by the 52 MBA students to acquire practical experience with the production process and managerial duties and other operational activities involved in the industry.

The students were accompanied by Mr. Suresh k Assistant Professor - MBA and, Mrs.G. Sathya Assistant Professor - MBA, visited the Medimix Soap Company and We reached the spot around 11:00AM, the plant’s Admin staff welcomed us with his open arms. He took us around the unit and explained us each and every step in the production process of the soap. The factory outlay was perfectly cleaned, organized and both the pathways had boards stating their layout blueprint. This industry hold space for herbal plants which adds, quality to their environment and to its aesthetic look as well.

Medimix is primarily known for its range of herbal soaps. These soaps are formulated with a combination of natural ingredients like sandalwood, turmeric, and other Ayurvedic herbs, which are believed to have various skin benefits. The company also offers other skincare products, including face washes and body lotions, all based on herbal formulations. Medimix products are deeply rooted in Ayurvedic principles. Ayurveda is an ancient Indian system of medicine that uses natural ingredients to promote holistic wellness. Medimix incorporates these principles into its products, emphasizing the use of natural herbs and oils to enhance skin health. Medimix is committed to maintaining high-quality standards in its products. The company uses advanced manufacturing processes to ensure the efficacy and purity of its herbal formulations. Quality control measures are implemented at every stage of production to deliver products that meet customer expectations. Many of Medimix's products are designed to be eco-friendly and sustainable. The company emphasizes the use of natural ingredients that are biodegradable and safe for the environment. Additionally, efforts are made to minimize packaging waste and promote eco-friendly practices.

Then the admin staff took us inside the production area and explained us step by step process of soap productions which consist of Selection of Ingredients where Medimix soap is known for its herbal formulation. Ingredients such as sandalwood, turmeric, herbal oils, and other Ayurvedic herbs are carefully selected for their skin-friendly properties and traditional medicinal uses. Then the extraction of process done where the selected herbs and ingredients are processed to extract their beneficial properties. This can involve methods like cold pressing, distillation, or maceration to obtain herbal oils, essences, or extracts. The extractions are preserved in bottles and added as per the production quantity. The soap preparation was carried out where in base soap is prepared using a combination of natural oils and fats. Common oils used in herbal soaps include coconut oil, palm oil, and olive oil. These oils are mixed with an alkali (such as sodium hydroxide) through a process called saponification, creating soap. Then the herbal extracts obtained earlier are added to the soap base. The timing and method of adding these extracts are crucial to preserving the potency of the herbal ingredients. While the herbal extracts are thoroughly mixed into the soap base to ensure even distribution of the herbal properties throughout the soap by huge machineries. Then the blended soap mixture is poured into molds to give the soap its final shape. The soap is then left to cure for a specific period (around a week), allowing it to harden and mature. During this curing process, the soap undergoes chemical changes that improve its quality. Once the soap has cured and achieved the desired consistency, it is packaged and prepared for distribution to consumers. In this process various cutting and sizing machinery along with manual support are done. Then manual quality checks are done before sending it for packaging. Then the packed soaps are arranged in carton box by the employees and their weights are once again checked. Once these processes are completed the packages are send to the storage room and kept there until they are dispatched.

Medimix, as a company, recognizes the importance of gender diversity in the workplace. While specific details about their employment practices and policies may vary, it is common for companies like Medimix to value and support their women employees by providing equal opportunities, fostering a supportive work environment, and promoting career growth regardless of gender. With the evidence we could see many women employed over there in production unit which would help them to develop their standard of living. We the students spoke to a women employee who was working there for around 15 years which shows their quality employment practice.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT REPORT - HATSUN AGRO PRODUCT LTD,

KANCHEEPURAM PLANT

On October 19, 2023, the Department of Management Studies at SRM Valliammai Engineering College at SRM Nagar Kattankulathur organised an industrial visit to HATSUN AGRO PRODUCT LIMITED, Kanchipuram plant was visited by the 40 MBA students to acquire practical experience with the production process and managerial duties and other operational activities involved.

The students were accompanied by Dr. K.Latha Assistant Professor - MBA and Mr. Srinivasan Assistant Professor - MBA, visited the HAP's unit and We reached the spot around 11:00AM, the plant’s Human Resource Manager Miss. Divya Priya, welcomed us with her open arms. She took us around the unit and explained us each and every step in the production process .The factory outlay was perfectly cleaned, organized and both the pathways had boards stating their layout blueprint, emergency escape route, fire exit lines and earth resistance test certificate etc .This industry hold space for herbal plants which adds, quality to their environment and to its aesthetic look as well. Herbal plants like Tulsi, Marikolundhu, Tincture and lot more. HAP follows 5s methodology to retain its reputation in the market.

She then took us to the main door and gave us safety protections like orange colored jackets, hair gloves and we went through separate section where, we were asked to wash our hands and cleaning measures were undergone.

Initially, we were all taken up to the quality check centre. Here, they clearly demonstrated the quality steps taken by them to satisfy their customers in all possible ways. It was said that they maintain regular and frequent inspections on their products at all levels. She also added that, quality assurance are given both to pre and post production, so as to maintain their quality standards

Before which, in the video centre a video was played which brought a clear view in our minds about their production activities. Then, one of their employees from production unit gave a brief overview on their production activities.

The process begins with the collection of raw milk from dairy farmers. They collect milk from farmers and deposits it to the HAP's milk bank where quality check is conducted. And the cows are also given regular check up by the company's Vet. Specialists and the intake given to cattle are completely from SANTOSA. which us also HATSUN's product. Not only this they have also shed their remarkable twists in different sources like, Arogya, santosa, Ibaco, Arun ice creams and HAP daily. This milk is transported to the unit. The collected milk undergoes rigorous quality testing to ensure it meets safety and quality standards. This includes testing for purity and the absence of contaminants.

The milk is then clarified to remove any solid impurities and foreign particles. Milk is separated into cream and skim milk using centrifugal separators. This allows for the production of various dairy products with different fat content. The milk is pasteurized by heating it to a specific temperature for a certain duration to kill harmful bacteria while preserving its flavor and nutritional value.

Homogenization process involves breaking down fat molecules to a uniform size, ensuring that the milk remains stable and doesn't separate. Depending on the desired fat content, the milk may be standardized by adjusting the ratio of cream and skim milk.

The milk is rapidly cooled to maintain its freshness and prevent bacterial growth at 50c. We were taken to the freezing room as well which was highly cold enough. The milk is packaged into various containers like bottles, cartons, or pouches, and it's sealed to maintain freshness. Before distribution, the final products are subjected to quality control checks to ensure they meet the required standards. The processed milk and dairy products are then distributed to retailers, supermarkets, and other outlets for consumers to purchase. Hatsun's milk processing facilities adhere to strict quality and hygiene standards to provide consumers with safe and high-quality dairy products.

The plant employee told us about curd production as well. And took us to the incubators where the milk is processed and bacteria is added to it for fermentation after which it is packed in pouches and moved to blast room where the packed content turns out to be curd and then distributed. The HAP's products reaches places like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Puducherry and kerala.

To conclude, the opportunity to visit this industry has provided us with a lot of insights in regard to the production activities and other managerial sides. We thank Director and Principal and Dr. K.Sentamilselvan – HOD, Department of MBA, Industrial visit coordinator Dr. J.Anand, and the faculty and College management for providing us this opportunity to acquire a bright exposure in live markets.
