The production plant was visited by the 47 MBA students to acquire practical experience with the production process and managerial duties.

The students were accompanied by Mrs. A. UmaDevi, Assistant Professor and Dr. M. Ganesan@kanagaraj, Assistant Professor, visited the United Breweries Ltd which carries out the production of Beer.

We reached the company around 11:00 AM, the plant’s quality officer Mr. Deepak welcomed us with open arms. He took us around the unit and explained us each and every step in the production process .The factory outlay was perfectly cleaned, organized and both the pathways had boards stating their layout blueprint, emergency escape route, fire exit lines and earth resistance test certificate etc .This industry follows Heineken Leadership Competency and 5S methodology to retain its reputation in the market.

Initially he accompanied us to the Brew house, it is the place where the production process begins. It takes completely of 12 to 15 days to process the beverage. Malt, rice, maize are added to the kettle. Atonce, grinded and broken into particles it reaches mash kettle. In this stage water is added at 45 degree and slowly the temperature raises to 55,61 and 68.Chemicals are added and checked whether all the malt are converted, it reaches the filter to extract the impurities.

Now the sugar is added at 100 degree to the next kettle named whirlpool. Here, waste gets settled down and pure liquid is collected. The liquid is allowed to ferment at 50.5 degree. Sugar is consumed by yeast plus heat energy and temperature serially comes down to 2 degree and it is allowed to ferment for 6 to 7 days in the yeast propogation area.

After fermentation, it enters lagaring stage. Here it is filtered and the yeast is utilized for further production. After lagaring it is heated at 100 degree and cooled at 2 degree and then enters the BBT-Bright Beer Tank. Now CO2 is added not only for fullness or body but for foaming potential, flavour enhancing and shelf life  extension.

After BBT it reaches packaging section. They use new and secondhand bottles and they stated that one line of bottling can hold nearly 25 litres of beer

Consequently, the industrial visit provided us with the chance to observe the various processes that are carried out at the United Breweries Ltd and to learn more about the various steps involved in it.

We would like to thank Director and Principal and Dr. K.Sentamilselvan, HOD, Department of MBA, Industrial visit coordinator Dr. J.Anand and the College management for providing us this opportunity.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT

HATSUN AGRO PRODUCT LTD -  KANCHEEPURAM PLANT

A Industrial Visit to Hatsun Agro Product Ltd, Kancheepuram Plant was organized by the Department of Management Studies, SRM Valliammai Engineering College, SRM Nagar Kattankulathur on 27.04.2023. The milk production plant was visited by I year MBA, 49 aspiring managers and future business owners to obtain firsthand experience with the production process and managerial duties.

The students were accompanied by department faculty  Dr. J. Anand, Assistant Professor - MBA and Dr.V. Selvalakshmi,  Assistant Professor - MBA, visited the Hatsun Agro Product Ltd which carries out the production of Arokya milk, When we got to the plant around 11:00 AM, the plant manager welcomed us with open arms. He then led us close to the plant's front door and gave us orange-colored safety jackets and hats. Boys and girls entered the plant through different doorways. The factory can produce 29 lakh litres per day in total. With two shifts working 12 hours each, the plant is operational 24 hours a day. We could see that there were fire extinguishers every 50 metres. This facility produces four different varieties of milk: full-cream milk, skim milk, standardised milk, and toned milk. One of the plant's employees described the procedure from raw material sourcing through post-production. In order to prevent the growth of bacteria, the raw milk is obtained from the cattle owners and immediately frozen at 50C until it reaches the processing facility. The milk sample is put through 45 different types of testing, and subsequent procedures are carried out based on the test results. The ratio of butter oil to cream mixture distinguishes the four types of milk from one another. Because it has been homogenised, this milk has the distinctive property of not developing a skin when heated. The expiration date for Arokya milk is four days after the date of packaging.

Hatsun Agro Products include:

·         Arokya,

·         Hatsun

·         Santosa

·         Ibaco ice creams

·         Arun ice creams

·         HAP daily.

After explanation, we were instructed to form a line, and the plant manager led us to the assembly line where we could view the pasteurizer, cream mixer, butter melting machine, and homogenizers with various capacities. Then we went to a lab for quality control testing, where the lab technician gave us an explanation of the testing procedures and we got to interact with them. Then the supervisor showed us around the packaging area where we could see the various milk packaging sizes and how damaged packs were recycled. The ability to enter the cool room, which was about 50C and held the packed milk for delivery to distributors, was the most fascinating aspect of the visit.
